ABOUT MOON AND SON

Thank you for visiting our web site!

My name is Randi and I am the proud mother of a wonderful son named Rowan. My nickname, “Moonbeam”, was gifted to me by my best friend upon my 30th birthday.

A few years later, my Sun was born in May 2005, and I joined a local moms support group under this name “moonbeam”. Just as the sun in our sky is reflected by the moon, I beam even brighter as a result of this incredible little boy being in my life.

The journey of becoming a mother transformed me as a woman in every aspect. It was my yoga practice that helped guide me through this challenging time. As my identity was shifting, it was yoga that unfolded a new world of possibility; as my baby was crying uncontrollably in my arms, it was my yoga that taught me patience and calm, and how to appreciate being in the moment, so that I could enjoy the beautiful nuances of motherhood.

I began my yoga practice in 1996, and have experienced healing in both body, from many injuries and severe low back pain, to spirit by learning many coping mechanisms for life’s many challenges and healing without medication from major depression. Yoga inspires me to be a better person each day, and motivates me to share my joy and wisdom with the community. Especially the community of new mothers.

In addition to some incredible local teachers who I am grateful to have studied with, I have also had the honor of studying with some of the countries most dynamic and inspiring teachers, such as John Friend (founder of Anusara Yoga), and Barbara Benagh (founder of Boston’s “The Yoga Studio”). My prenatal instructors included Kristin Tovson and Kerry Jordan. It was during my pregnancy that my yoga practice truly opened up to an intensely spiritual practice, in addition to a physical one.

After the birth of my son, I was offered the opportunity to teach Baby and Me yoga at Roslindale Yoga where I taught for 2.5 years, adding additional classes at other yoga studios as well. It was this experience that inspired me to pursue training to teach yoga professionally, and I took a specialized training for Prenatal Yoga Instruction with Dyan Murphy of the Fitness Resources Associates, Inc. . My Prenatal classes have become my most popular, thusfar, and I am excited to be offering them again in Roslindale at the new Village Tree Yoga, as well as at Yoga Now in Dedham.
